In short

Subscription and bit revenue, donations and sponsorships are characterised differently — some as services income, some as gifts, some as royalties — and the platform's country decides the withholding on part of it.

Below: the rule, what clients ask first, two worked files with their numbers, the process end to end, and the published fee.

The rule that applies to this group and not the one next to it

Subscription and bit revenue, donations and sponsorships are characterised differently — some as services income, some as gifts, some as royalties — and the platform's country decides the withholding on part of it.

Read this first; the rest is procedure. That is the practical value of a specialist here: not better arithmetic, but knowing which of several possible rules governs twitch & live streamers before the return is built on the wrong one.

Transparent, fixed pricing for twitch & live streamers your filing calendar

A streamer's filing calendar drives the fee more than the income does: how many separate returns and information filings fall due across a year, in how many countries, and whether instalments have to be worked out rather than simply paid. One country and one return is the short version, and it is priced in writing first.

Three things we hear on the first call

  • Donations are not income according to my viewers and income according to my accountant.
  • My subscription revenue comes from a foreign platform with foreign withholding.
  • I stream from abroad for months at a time without telling anyone.

None of those is unusual and none of them is a reason to be embarrassed. They are the normal consequence of a system that asks an individual to reconcile two sets of rules that were never designed to fit together. See also NRI Indian return — do you need to declare foreign assets?.

The numbers, end to end

Put numbers against it and the shape of the answer is obvious.

Gross withholding against a net-basis return

A non-resident receives C$51,000 in the year. Assume withholding at 27% on the gross amount, and assume deductible costs of C$35,700 against it.

Gross withholding against a net-basis return
ItemAmount
Gross amount receivedC$51,000
Withheld at source (assumed 27% of gross)C$13,770
Deductible costsC$35,700
Net amount actually earnedC$15,300
Tax on the net amount (assumed graduated result)C$3,978
Difference recoverable by filingC$9,792

Filing on a net basis recovers C$9,792 of the C$13,770 withheld. That difference is the entire reason the elective return exists, and it is lost by not filing. Change any one of those inputs and the answer moves, which is why we run it on your own figures rather than on an illustration.

An illustration, not a client file. The sums are chosen for legibility and the thresholds are stated for the example alone — nothing reaches a filing until it has been confirmed at source for your own year.

A worked example

Numbers make this concrete, so here is the same rule applied to a set of figures.

Credit relief on one stream of income

Take C$138,000 of income taxed in both countries. Assume the other country charged 30% on it and the home country would charge 32% on the same amount.

Credit relief on one stream of income
ItemAmount
Income taxed in both countriesC$138,000
Tax paid abroad (assumed 30%)C$41,400
Home tax on the same income (assumed 32%)C$44,160
Credit available (lesser of the two)C$41,400
Home tax still payableC$2,760

The credit absorbs C$41,400 and leaves C$2,760 payable at home, because the home rate on this income is the higher of the two. The balance is real cash and it is due on the home timetable, which is why instalments get raised in the first meeting. We run this on your actual numbers before advising anything, because the conclusion can invert with a modest change in inputs.

The figures here are an illustration, not an engagement: amounts are picked so the mechanism is easy to follow, and every rate or threshold is an assumption of the example. Before anything is filed for you, each one is confirmed with the issuing authority for your own tax year.

The four steps

  1. 1A short call to work out what actually applies to you and what does not
  2. 2A written quote against a defined scope, with nothing billed by the hour
  3. 3We prepare, a named reviewer checks it, and you see it before it goes
  4. 4You approve, we file, and only then do you pay
  • Consultations scheduled to your working day rather than ours.
  • 18,000+ clients served across 4 global offices: India, the USA, Canada and the UAE.
  • Documents move through one secure portal, and you can meet us in person at any of our offices.

Your next step

Describe the situation in your own words; translating it into forms is our job.

International tax accountant, in practice

Readers arrive here searching for international tax accountant, and twitch & live streamers: your filing calendar is what the page is about. Below: who it catches, what has to be filed, and what it costs — quoted in writing, before anything is done.

The four phases of the work

  1. Hand over the paperwork in any state

Sorting it is our job. Send what exists and we identify what is missing from it.

  2. Priced before a single form is opened

The fee comes from the documents, agreed in writing, and stays where it was agreed.

  3. One position across every return

The same facts, filed consistently on each side, so nothing contradicts anything else.

  4. Filed after you have read it

The completed work reaches you before it reaches an authority.

What you are actually buying with twitch & live streamers your filing calendar

Factor Legal Quotient Hourly billing model
Pricing A fixed fee, agreed in writing before work starts Hourly, billed as incurred
Experience 15+ years of cross-border work, 18,000+ clients Varies by file
Both sides of the border Prepared together by one team, so relief is claimed exactly once One country at a time, reconciled later
Who reviews it A named practitioner, published on the page Whoever the queue reaches
Where the work happens Our offices in India, the USA, Canada and the UAE Whichever single office you can travel to

Four terms worth pinning down

Excess distribution
A distribution from a foreign pooled investment above a permitted amount, thrown back across the holding period with an interest charge under the default regime.
Quiet disclosure
Filing amended returns without entering a programme. It forfeits the programme relief while flagging the very years in question.
Superficial loss
A denied loss where the same or identical property is reacquired within a defined period around the sale by the taxpayer or an affiliated person.
Tax residency certificate
The certificate from a treaty partner's authority that India requires before granting treaty relief, for the right period and in the right name.

Twitch & live streamers your filing calendar — what the published fees look like

A deadline already missed changes the engagement. Bringing a late streaming year current means correcting the numbers, making the disclosure and handling the correspondence together, and how far behind you are is what the quote turns on, not the size of the channel or the platform it runs on.

What working with us on twitch & live streamers your filing calendar looks like

The quote comes from your documents

Nothing is priced from a phone call. We read what you have first, then the fee is set — so the scope and the number are agreed on the same evidence.

Late and missed years are ordinary work

An unfiled history is not a reason to wait longer. We assess what is still open and what relief the delay attracts before the first return goes in.

The reporting penalties get named early

The heaviest exposure on a cross-border file is usually a disclosure form, not the tax. We identify which ones apply before a deadline turns into a penalty.

The fee is fixed before we start

Quoted from your documents and agreed in writing. The number you accept is the number you pay.

  • Step 1: Tell us the dates and we will tell you the position – Arrival, departure, the years in between — the residence question turns on those before anything else.
  • Step 2: Fixed fee, defined scope, in writing – Both agreed before work starts, so the engagement cannot grow into a larger bill.
  • Step 3: Prepared together, not passed between firms – You are not the go-between for two sets of advisers working from two sets of assumptions.
  • Step 4: Reviewed, approved, filed – A named practitioner checks it, you approve it, and then it goes.

Cross-border situations we are engaged for

Case study 1

Leaving Canada — the Bill You Get for Assets You Still Own

Emigrating triggers a deemed disposition of most holdings, which produces tax on gains never realised in cash. The file values the property, identifies what is excluded, and looks at whether security can be posted rather than the tax paid outright.

Read how this one runs
Case study 2

Whether the Year Made Someone an NRI

Indian residence is decided by presence tests applied to the financial year, and a single trip can change the answer for the whole of it. The status is established before any return or exemption is considered.

Read how this one runs
Case study 3

Which Country Taxes the Salary

The employment article turns on where the work is done, who pays, and who bears the cost — three tests that can point in different directions. The file establishes all three before either return is drafted.

Read how this one runs
Case study 4

A Student or Researcher Covered by a Treaty Article

Several treaties carry a dedicated article for students, trainees and visiting researchers that displaces the ordinary employment rules. Whether it applies turns on the purpose of the stay and the source of the funds, both of which are evidenced rather than asserted.

Read how this one runs
Case study 5

An NRI Selling Indian Property With Tax Withheld on the Price

Withholding on a sale by a non-resident is applied to the sale value rather than to the gain, so it routinely exceeds the tax due. A lower-deduction certificate obtained before completion avoids locking the difference up until a return is assessed.

Read how this one runs
Case study 6

A TFSA That Costs More Than It Saves

Canadian tax-free accounts are not tax-free to a US person, and some of them carry a reporting form of their own. The file is a review of what is held, what each account triggers on the US side, and whether the account is worth keeping once the reporting is priced in.

Read how this one runs
Case study 7

Inheriting Property in India While Living Abroad

India does not tax the inheritance itself, but the later sale and the money leaving the country both have positions of their own. The file establishes the cost base to use on that sale and what the remittance will require.

Case study 8

A Canadian Property Sale Held Up for a Clearance Certificate

When a non-resident sells Canadian real estate the purchaser must hold back a portion of the price until the seller produces a certificate. The file applies for it on the correct basis and works to the closing date, because the holdback is released against the certificate, not against the sale.

Core International & Cross-Border Tax Services

International Tax Planning & Advisory

Strategy and compliance for income, assets and families spread across borders.

One coordinating team: filings on every side of the border are sequenced so treaty relief and foreign tax credits are claimed once — and in the right country.

U.S. & Cross-Border Tax Returns

Dual filers: U.S. citizens in Canada and Canadians with U.S. income run two parallel systems — we prepare both, in the right order, every year.

Expat & Emigration Tax

The move year is its own project: the elections and valuations filed that year decide the next decade of both countries’ returns.

Non-Resident Canadian Tax

Default withholding is 25% of gross: elective returns routinely turn over-withheld rent and pensions into refunds.

Transfer Pricing & BEPS

Documentation prepared with the return is the cheapest insurance in international tax; reconstructing it during an audit is the most expensive.

Cross-Border Estates & Trusts

Wills drafted for one country routinely misfire in the other — deemed disposition here, estate tax there, credits in between.

Cross-Border Corporate Tax

Expansion raises the same four questions every time — entity, PE, repatriation, payroll. We answer them before the tax authorities do.

India Tax for NRIs & Returning Residents

The deduction is taken on the sale price, not the gain — which is why an NRI property sale strands cash unless the certificate is applied for before closing.

Canadian Tax with a Foreign Element

Residency is decided on facts, not on a form — and the year you arrive or leave is the one where the largest amounts turn on the smallest details.

UAE Tax for Expats & Their Home Country

A zero-tax country is only half the answer — the question that decides the bill is whether the country you came from still treats you as resident.

Twitch & live streamers — your filing calendar — questions we are asked

What makes twitch & live streamers different from an ordinary filing?

Subscription and bit revenue, donations and sponsorships are characterised differently — some as services income, some as gifts, some as royalties — and the platform's country decides the withholding on part of it. An ordinary preparer applies the general rule and stops there, which is how the relief in the specific provision goes unclaimed.

Can you work with my existing accountant?

That is how most of these engagements run. They keep the domestic file, we take the cross-border piece, and the boundary is agreed in writing so nothing is done twice or missed.

Do I get credit for all of the foreign tax I paid?

Only up to your own country's tax on that same income, and only for tax you were legally obliged to pay. Two consequences follow. Living somewhere that taxes you more heavily than your residence country does leaves an excess that becomes a carryover rather than a refund. And withholding suffered above the treaty rate is not creditable — the route back to that money is a refund claim in the country that took it. See claiming the credit.

Do I pay tax when I inherit property abroad?

The inheritance itself is often not income to you, but three other things can create tax: the estate may owe tax where the deceased or the property was situated, some countries tax the recipient directly, and the gain from the date you inherit to the date you sell is yours. Reporting obligations can also attach to holding the asset. See inheriting property abroad.

Can you help before I move rather than after?

That is the cheapest engagement we offer. Almost every lever in this area expires on the day a status changes, and beforehand they are all still available.

Is the quote binding?

Yes, for the scope quoted. A change in scope is re-quoted before the work continues, so there is never an invoice you have not already agreed to.
